Mount Hope Music Club looking for members!

Allen Music Therapy is pleased to announce an upcoming music ensemble starting in the new year.  The Mount Hope Music Club is a community music group based in the Mount Hope neighbourhood of Kitchener. The group is open to all ages and abilities.

The group will serve as an inclusive ensemble for individuals to come learn and experience music.  Participants will have the opportunity to learn new skills and make connections with other individuals in their community.  Numerous instruments are available including percussion, fretted strings, and brass.  Participants can also bring their own instruments if they wish!

Lessons will be on Monday evenings from 7:15-8:15, and will be facilitated at the W.A.L.E.S building located at 14 Braun St.  First rehearsal is on January 9th, and will run for ten weeks.  A performance opportunity in the community will occur at the end of ten weeks.  Cost is $10 per lesson.

Whether you are a seasoned pro, or have never an instrument before, I invite you to come out and join this ensemble.  I am very excited to begin this group.  For more information, please contact me using the information on the attached poster.mount-hope-music-group-1

Inclusive Music Group Updates!

Hello everyone!

At this time I would like to announce a couple of revisions involving my upcoming inclusive music group.  Lots of planning has occurred in the past month, and I want to make sure the plan for this group is known.

FIRST:  The group will NOT be starting on October 17th.  The start date has been pushed back to January 2017 in order to allow for time to promote and market the group.  This also allows for the ten week long group to run uninterrupted by the December holiday season.  A more concrete start date will be posted once it is determined.

Second: Inclusion and community development are the two main focal points of the group.  It is designed to be a safe space for individuals with special needs to learn music skills alongside other members of the community.  It is also a chance for participants to make friends and social connections with others.  I am planning on having a performance option at the end of the term, which we will determine as the group progresses.

Third:  The group will have a name, which is being determined as we speak.  Once the name is finalized, it will be posted.  This name will also be on all promotional material for the group, so keep your eyes peeled once it is released!

Finally: Much of the information from the previous post is still the same despite the change in start date.  The group will be on Monday evenings from 7:15-8:15.  It will be at the W.A.L.E.S building, which is located in-behind the Extend-A-Family office at 91 Moore Avenue in Kitchener.  It will be facilitated by myself, and Extend-A-Family will be sponsoring it.  We are hoping for a minimum of 8-10 participants, however the more the merrier!

If you are interested in joining, know someone who might be, or would like more information, please contact me at danielallen.trombone@gmail.com, or at 519-760-3530.  Thank you, and stay tuned for more updates!

Inclusive Music Group Beginning this October!

Hello everyone!  I mentioned in the summer that new opportunities would be starting in the fall, and I am excited to announce an upcoming project beginning in mid-October.  Allen Music Therapy will be facilitating an inclusive music group, which is being sponsored by Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region.

Plans for the group are still in the works, however I am able to pass on some information about the group.  The group will be held weekly on Monday evenings starting at 7:15pm, and sessions will last for one hour.  The program will be ten weeks long, and will tentatively run between October 17th-December 19th.  The group will be held at the W.A.L.E.S building located in behind the Extend-A-Family head office at 91 Moore Avenue, Kitchener.

The primary aim for having this group is to create an ensemble where individuals with special needs can learn musical and instrumental concepts alongside other members of their community.  There will be many opportunities for positive development in cognitive, physical, and social abilities.  Another long term aim is to have the group do a performance in the community at the end of the ten week term.

Stay tuned for further updates regarding the group as they come.  Please contact me directly for additional details.  This is an exciting opportunity, so please help me spread the word. Thanks!
